Before you download

Which installer should I choose?

On a Mac, choose Apple Silicon for an M1 or later Mac running macOS 11 or later, or Intel for an Intel Mac running macOS 13 or later (Apple menu → About This Mac shows which you have). Windows and Linux need an x86-64 processor. On Debian or Ubuntu, use the .deb package; on other Linux distributions, use the AppImage.

Is PEARL signed?

Both Mac apps are signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so they open without a warning. The Windows installer has no publisher signature yet, so Windows may say “Windows protected your PC”: choose More info, then Run anyway. Installation testing on Windows and Linux for the latest version is still pending.

How do I update?

PEARL updates itself on macOS, Windows and the Linux AppImage: it downloads a new version in the background and installs it when you restart. Check for Updates… is in the PEARL menu on a Mac and under Help on Windows and Linux. The .deb package does not update itself; download the new one here. Your projects carry over, and the database upgrades itself on first start and keeps a backup beside it.

Do I need an AI subscription?

No. PEARL can run on a free local model with Ollama, or use a Claude, ChatGPT or Google plan you already have, or an OpenRouter key. Get started shows each one step by step. Provider accounts and any usage charges are separate from PEARL.

Is PEARL open source?

No. The source repository is private; the desktop packages include the application code needed to run PEARL.

Where can I see what changed?

Every version and what changed in it is on the releases page.
